With the summer months only weeks away, you may have considered some time away with the family, or some peace and quiet as a couple or with some friends. If you’re hiring a vehicle from St. Albans Car and Van Hire, and plan on driving around the area and visiting some attractions, then you’re also going to need to think about somewhere to stay.
Being an historic city, it’s no surprise that there are a number of historic accommodation choices from which you can take your pick. How about the White Hart Hotel – one of the oldest buildings in the city – a 15th century coaching inn, situated near to the city’s cathedral? The hotel has seen many historic events during its long life, and was a place of overnight rest for the last person in England to be publicly beheaded, as he made his final journey in 1747. There are period features throughout the hotel, and its restaurant features dishes inspired by the Tudor era!
Close to The White Hart, is the Clarion Collection Hotel. Although a grade II listed building built in 1911, this hotel has been refurbished and decorated in a much more contemporary style, although still retains many original features such as a sweeping staircase and a magnificent mahogany and stained glass dome. This hotel is ideal if you like a bit of history but also a bit of the luxurious!
If you fancy somewhere just outside of the city centre, then St. Michael's Manor Hotel might be your hotel of choice. Set in five acres of beautiful private English country gardens, it has its own lake and highly-acclaimed orangery-style lake restaurant. The original house dates back over 500 years, and so be warned, with years comes history, and with history comes incidents of the unknown. Might you witness the ghost seen walking down the stairs in this historic building?
If you decide not to stay in the city centre of St. Albans, there are plenty of other historical and beautiful places to stay, just a short driving distance away.
