Situated about two miles north-west of Welwyn Garden City, is the village of Ayot St. Peter. Famous for having four churches in the village since history records began, one of its existing complete churches is Saint Peter’s - a beautiful and important Arts and Crafts church designed by J.P. Seddon and completed in 1875.
Designed in a gothic style, with its contemporary tiles, red and white brick chequer pattern, stained glass, mosaic work, and imposing tall spire, it really is a sight to behold. The church is open for its regular weekly services, and is also open to visitors on heritage days – a wonderful place to visit for a touch of historical architecture if you’ve hired a vehicle for the day from St. Albans Car and Van Hire.
Not far from the Ayot St. Peter area, in the town of Welwyn Garden City, are the Welwyn Roman Baths. The Roman Baths are an inexpensive and fun day out for families and groups of children, learning how Roman central heating worked, and looking at the recently updated displays of beautiful objects from the area. Children can get stuck right in, with activities to complete as they tour the venue, spices to grind, and the chance to dress up as a Roman!
Also for a bit of fun, and only a stone’s throw from the Ayot St. Peter area, is the popular Rollercity – a large classic style roller-skating rink! There are public skate sessions for all age groups and abilities, plus regular Family Jam sessions.
Why not hire a vehicle from St. Albans Car and Van Hire, and take a school group, scout group, youth group or birthday trip to one of these attractions, for something a little different?
