Bricket Wood is a village in the county of Hertfordshire just 4.2 miles south of St Albans, roughly an 18 minute drive from us here at St Albans Car and Van Hire.
Bricket Wood is a fascinating and beautiful village near St Albans, giving us Frank Turner (1922-2010) who was three-times Olympic gymnast and currently making it's mark as home to the border Morris Dancing team 'Wicket Brood' (one of the best known teams in the area). It is as rich in heritage as it is in beauty.
Close to the village stands Hanstead House which was built by Sir David Yule in 1925, Yule went into the family business, which was trade with India and went on the be described by the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography as "arguably the most important businessman in India" and by The Times as "one of the wealthiest men, if not the wealthiest man, in the country"
Hanstead House was later bought by Herbert W. Armstrong, founder of the Worldwide Church of God and early pioneer of radio and tele-evangelism to serve as his second Ambassador College campus for many years. It would be fair to say that it is a stunning example of the classic English beauty of Bricket wood.
